Mandatory army service discriminates men Posted: 18 Oct 2011 06:53 AM PDT Traditionally, many young men in Russia try to do their best to dodge the army service. In St. Petersburg, a man tried to take a legal action to prove that conscription is nothing but a form of sexual discrimination of men. |

Eighty year-old doyen of Palestinian prisoners to be freed Posted: 18 Oct 2011 03:54 AM PDT The Israel-Hamas prisoner exchange deal has forced the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to cross a number of red lines, of which one of great importance is the freeing of Palestinian prisoners who are citizens of the Zionist state. Successive Israeli governments have sought to include Palestinians from occupied East Jerusalem holding blue Israeli identity cards within the category identified as "citizens of the state" and whose future has been off the agenda, prisoners included. That has now changed as among those that Israel is now forced to release is the doyen of the Palestinian prisoners, Sheikh Sami Younis, aged 80, who has spent 29 years in prison. |

Posted: 18 Oct 2011 03:49 AM PDT The flu paranoia season is upon us, and, as usual, the government-medical complex is ramping up its fear mongering over … the flu. Coughing, sneezing, sore throat, diarrhea, fever, and other simple stuff has been elevated to life-and-death status. When I was a child, no one thought much about the flu – no one wanted to be sick, but if you got the flu you did your best to plow through it and get over it. Sure, the flu can kill some folks whose immune systems are not prepared for the onslaught, as can many other minor seemingly minor events, but healthy people also die falling off of porches and ladders in an unexpected manner. |
Unfolding a plot: Mossad at work Posted: 18 Oct 2011 03:28 AM PDT Despite its evidently make-believe facade, the cooked-up story of the Saudi envoy assassination plot does not seem to be something which can be easily banished from the minds of the American powers that be. |
It is OK for USA to humiliate Russia Posted: 18 Oct 2011 03:27 AM PDT On October 17, Russia's Izvestia newspaper published an interview with pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, who was sentenced to 20 years in the United States on drug trafficking charges. Yaroshenko claims that his case is directly related to the persecution of businessman Viktor Bout. |
Shamanism: Religion next door to medicine Posted: 18 Oct 2011 01:06 AM PDT Shamanism is the national religion in many regions of the Earth, including Yakutia. The ancient belief has survived the Soviet persecution of religion. During those atheist years the Yakut shamans were hiding their abilities. The remaining oyuuns, as they were called by the local population, and Udege (female shamans) soon found a loophole. With a talent for medicine, they found work as medical staff and veterinarians. Hiding under the guise of the Soviet medicine, Yakut shamans secretly conducted their magical rituals. |
Year 2011 becomes one of the worst in US history Posted: 18 Oct 2011 12:49 AM PDT The U.S. Treasury announced the completion of another financial year. The budget deficit in 2011 reached record high, amounting to nearly $1.3 trillion. Experts consider it the worst result in history as a larger budget deficit was only in 2009. At the moment the U.S. economy is still struggling with the effects of the global financial crisis of 2008-2009. |

Women endangered by high rate of false-positive mammograms Posted: 18 Oct 2011 12:00 AM PDT According to mainstream medicine, mammograms are the key to surviving breast cancer because they supposedly catch the disease early for quick treatment. What this advice invariably leaves out is evidence that exposure to the radiation used in the tests may actually cause breast cancer in some women. |
CDC caught in blatant lies about pandemics and vaccines Posted: 18 Oct 2011 12:00 AM PDT The CDC relies on an authoritative presence to influence not just USA health policy, but world health policy. This prestigious presence also demands more federal funding, which is being questioned. It seems that the CDC's research, practices, and expenditures have been under scrutiny lately. |
Report: Antibiotics can permanently destroy gut flora balance, leading to lifelong illness Posted: 18 Oct 2011 12:00 AM PDT Overuse and overprescription of antibiotic drugs has become a widely known culprit in causing the emergence of antibiotic-resistant "superbugs," as well as the onset of digestive and other health problems, caused by the elimination of beneficial gut flora. But a new review published in the journal Nature suggests that such gut flora alterations could be permanent. |

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:46 PM PDT Official Washington's clamor for retaliation against Iran for its alleged role in a bizarre plot to murder the Saudi ambassador has put the U.S. and Iran on a collision course again. But Lawrence Davidson wonders whether it's U.S. counter-terror agencies that are out of control. |
Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:34 PM PDT The entire financial system of the western world is designed to be a debt spiral. The total amount of money and and the total amount of debt are supposed to continually expand. Today, we are in debt up to our eyeballs and it seems like nearly everyone is talking about "deleveraging" and reducing government debt. But in a world where the entire financial system is based on debt, is there any way for massive deleveraging to take place without plunging us all into a horrific worldwide depression? The governments of the western world have had a lot of fun spending money as if there was no tomorrow, but now tomorrow has arrived and all of that debt is rapidly catching up with us. Politicians in Europe and in the United States are running around trying to come up with a "plan", but there is no "plan" that is going to fix the current debt-based system. Over the next few years we are going to reap what we have sown. |
Mention the weak, give to the strong Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:08 PM PDT The entire battle of the medical residents, all the resignations and anger, would have been prevented had Leonid Eidelman, the head of the Israel Medical Association, fulfilled the first law of labor relations: Always talk about the weak and deprived, but give most of the salary increase to the strong and well off. |
Let's hear it for Israeli stubbornness Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:08 PM PDT The decision on the Gilad Shalit deal is behind us. The cabinet, the body with the authority to make such a decision, gave Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a large majority to carry out the deal. The decision obligates us all. Each of us shares Noam and Aviva Shalit's joy with all his heart. The Shalits are noble people, and it's hard to imagine their horrible suffering over the past five and a half years - and that of Gilad, the Israeli soldier returning home. |
For the greater glory of the rule of law Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:08 PM PDT Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman to establish a committee to recommend ways to legalize Israeli construction in the territories. In particular, the committee is to find ways to legalize the confiscation of land owned by individual Palestinians who had the bad luck to have illegal outposts built on their property. |
Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:08 PM PDT With the announcement of the deal for Gilad Shalit's release, our lives were once again taken over by North Korea syndrome, just as they were during the summer's social protests and Operation Cast Lead in Gaza in 2008: The differences among the country's media outlets were submerged in a wave of self-love, and the joys of national unity were intensified by growing contempt for the Palestinians, who have much blood on their hands. Cast Lead was our milk-and-honey pathway to them. |

Israelis hunger for media-written history Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:08 PM PDT With the announcement of the deal for Gilad Shalit's release, our lives were once again taken over by North Korea syndrome, just as they were during the summer's social protests and Operation Cast Lead in Gaza in 2008: The differences among the country's media outlets were submerged in a wave of self-love, and the joys of national unity were intensified by growing contempt for the Palestinians, who have much blood on their hands. A boon to Hamas, at Fatah's expense Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:08 PM PDT At a time when the Shalit deal is raising the stock of Hamas in the eyes of Palestinians in the territories, the Netanyahu government is making an effort to depict Fatah, committed to reaching a negotiated agreement with Israel, as devoid of purpose. Not a week goes by without news of a new building project in the territories or in East Jerusalem. A few days after the prime minister announced the imminent appointment of a panel to look for ways to legalize the settlements and outposts that were built on private Palestinians lands, Haaretz reported progress on a plan to create a new Jerusalem neighborhood on Israel Lands Administration land beyond the Green Line. |
How Israel's medical revolt began Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:08 PM PDT The entire battle of the medical residents, all the resignations and anger, would have been prevented had Leonid Eidelman, the head of the Israel Medical Association, fulfilled the first law of labor relations: Always talk about the weak and deprived, but give most of the salary increase to the strong and well off. |

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:07 PM PDT I noted last week that Tokyo and the adjoining city of Yokohama were found to contain "hotspots" with very high levels of radiation, and that all of the hotspots were originally found by citizens using geiger counters, because the government wasn't really testing. |
Occupy Assange: 'Corrupt banks, corrupt cash' Posted: 17 Oct 2011 06:05 PM PDT The founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, attended the protests in London that are part of a worldwide action against corporate greed and austerity measures. Assange said that he was there to show his solidarity with the Occupy London movement, which was inspired by the Occupy Wall Street protests in the US. Assange traveled to London from his friend Vaughan Smith's country mansion in Suffolk, eastern England. Assange is living there on bail as he fights extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning over allegations of rape and sexual assault made by two women. |
Fight & Chaos: First video of 'Occupy Rome' rally turning violent Posted: 17 Oct 2011 05:41 PM PDT For latest updates, follow RT on and www.facebook.com What was initially planned as a peaceful "Occupy Rome" protest turned into a violent demonstration in the Italian capital. Police reportedly used tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds of angry Italians. Protesters wearing masks and helmets threw rocks, bottles and other objects at police in riot gear. Some wielded clubs, while others were armed with hammers. The demonstration against the government's economic policy, with a crowd estimated at 200000, descended into violent chaos when groups of angry protesters set cars on fire, smashed windows and attacked shops. Protesters also attacked the Defense Ministry and set a wing of the building on fire. At least one person was injured and taken to a hospital, the Al Jazeera television network reported. The protests in the Italian capital were modeled on the "Occupy Wall Street" demonstration against capitalism and austerity measures, which went global Saturday with dozens of marches and protests worldwide. The website for the international movement said 951 cities in 87 countries were ready to "Unite for Global Change" -- the official slogan of the rally. Sizable protests were held in Spain, the UK and New York. |
Rabbi and Moses' 11th Commandment Posted: 17 Oct 2011 05:35 PM PDT Rabbi Dow Marmur at Toronto's Holy Blossom Temple in his latest column in the Toronto Star (October 17, 2011), entitled 'The next step to ensure Israel's survival' – has dished out some interesting religious and historical points to convince the Jewish communities living in Diaspora that their survival as 'Jews' depends on a strong state of Israel. |
Occupy Together: World Street protests fight big banksters Posted: 17 Oct 2011 04:05 PM PDT For latest updates, follow RT on and www.facebook.com We've had enough! That's the message being sent from many around the world to big business and government, as people in almost a thousand cities take their anger to the streets. The 'Occupy Together' movement, which began in New York, is now demanding global change. Let's now zero-in on two of the rallying cities and talk to our correspondents, Ivor Bennett in London, and Daniel Bushell in Brussels. |

Posted: 17 Oct 2011 03:41 PM PDT A legend is being created that is going to haunt the people who have been propelled into power in Tripoli. In Sirte a handful of men have set an example of bravery in the face of impossible odds that will eventually find its place in Arab history. Weeks of missile and bomb attacks have reduced the centre of the city to ruins and killed an unknown number of civilians. The photos coming out of the city show Beirut-style devastation. The fighters defending the city would seem to be doomed. They have their backs to the sea and are surrounded on three sides. We don't know who they are or how many of them there are. Some might be the remnants of the Libyan army and others civilians who have taken up arms to defend their city. We don't know why they are fighting. We are told that they are just fighting for their lives. We are told that they are mercenaries, but mercenaries put down their arms when the money runs out. We are told that they are 'Gaddafi loyalists'. That discredits them immediately. Noone really knows what they are fighting for, but their country has to be a possibility for at least some of them. |

In August it was reported that the spook agency was working with the cops in New York to spy on Muslims. The CIA and the NYPD began working together a few months after the 9/11 attacks. |
Posted: 17 Oct 2011 08:43 AM PDT Today at 3pm on Las Vegas, perpetually ignored by the media on both the left and right presidential candidate Ron Paul will announce details of his $1 trillion proposal in government spending cuts, which will be the start of a process to balance the Federal budget in three . As Politico reports, "the Texas congressman will lay out a budget blueprint for deep and far-reaching cuts to federal spending, including the elimination of five cabinet-level departments and the drawdown of American troops fighting overseas." Amusingly, and if there is anything that will Paul brownie points with an electorate disgusted by those spreading hypocritical class warfare, "there will even be a symbolic readjustment of the president's own salary to put it in line with the average American salary." |

Slaying the New York State Pork Dragon Posted: 17 Oct 2011 03:51 AM PDT New York State was once known to the world as the Empire State. After decades of government mismanagement and corporate plunder, the beleaguered taxpayer needs and deserves substantial relief. Pouring public funds into corporate coffers as "gifts" for the honor of having these enterprises conduct their trade is a practice that enriches the few, while sucking the economic life out of impoverished residents. The racket of "Corporate Welfare" gives new meaning to those famous words of General Jack D. Ripper – "A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual, and certainly without any choice". |
43,454,601,693,238 Reasons Why The World Is Broke – Presenting The Interactive Global Debt Clock Posted: 17 Oct 2011 03:34 AM PDT By now everyone has had a chance to play with the US debt clock. But what about its global cousin? Courtesy of The Economist, we now have a convenient way to track the hundreds of millions in dollars added each and every hour by the global governments who see to spur global deleveraging by, you guessed it, adding more debt. Yes, in the process the world's sovereigns are transferring default risk away from global corporations to sovereigns, but few in the #OWS crowd appear to have yet figured out this rather disturbing and very insidious usurpation of sovereignty by the global corporatocracy, so said risk and leverage transfer will continue until such time as any and all paper backed by these insolvent corporate shells (f/k/a countries) is completely worthless. Regardless, one should not forget that like in the sandalone case, the "debt clock" below only tracks on balance sheet debt. Should one add the NPV of all "welfare state" obligations (pensions, retirement, healthcare), the number will be well over quarter of a quadrillion dollars. Have fun funding that, never mind paying it off… |
Lybia: Human rights impostors used to spawn NATO's fraudulent war Posted: 17 Oct 2011 03:34 AM PDT The names change but the methods remain the same. In Iraq the imperial war facilitator was Ahmed Chalabi. In Libya he goes by the name of Soliman Bouchuiguir, a shadowy human rights figure whose baseless allegations against Gaddafi were endorsed by the UN system and its affiliated human rights agencies without the slightest verification. Each one in his own way, Nazemroaya and Teil shed light on a failed system of international law and justice, which has made itself complicit in NATO's war crimes in Libya. |
